FBR Digital Invoicing — Quick Answers
FBR Digital Invoicing is the Federal Board of Revenue's electronic invoicing system for Pakistan. Registered businesses transmit each sales tax invoice to FBR in real time through the Digital Invoicing (DI) API, and FBR returns a unique invoice number and a Version 2.0 QR code that must appear on the printed invoice. Digi Invoice handles this entire flow — validation, submission, invoice number and QR code — in one click.
FBR has been rolling out mandatory digital invoicing for sales tax registered persons in phases, notifying business categories through SROs and general orders. Once your business is notified, every sales tax invoice must be issued through FBR's Digital Invoicing system. Integrating early with a ready platform like Digi Invoice keeps you compliant well before your deadline.
There are two routes: build a direct integration against FBR's DI API with your own developers, or use a ready-made integration platform. With Digi Invoice you create an account, complete a guided business and FBR setup, and start posting compliant invoices the same day — no API development, hosting or maintenance required.
v1.12 is the current technical specification of FBR's Digital Invoicing API. It defines the invoice schema, validation rules, sale types, and the QR code and invoice-number formats integrators must implement. Digi Invoice stays aligned with the v1.12 specification, so every invoice you post is validated against the latest FBR rules automatically.
Yes. Every invoice issued through FBR Digital Invoicing carries a unique FBR invoice number and a Version 2.0 QR code, along with the mandatory FBR Digital Invoicing logo. Digi Invoice generates and places all three automatically on every posted invoice and in every printed PDF.
To integrate digital invoices with FBR, register your business on the FBR portal with your NTN, then connect your billing software to FBR's Digital Invoicing API through a licensed integrator (or PRAL). Your software must submit invoices in FBR's approved JSON format with digital signatures and QR codes. The simplest route is Digi Invoice — a ready, PRAL-certified integration where you sign up, complete a guided setup, and post FBR-compliant invoices the same day, with no API development.
FBR integration means connecting your POS, ERP or billing software to the Federal Board of Revenue's system so every sales tax invoice is transmitted to FBR in real time, validated, and returned with a unique invoice number and QR code. It turns invoicing into a live, tax-transparent process. Digi Invoice provides this integration ready-made for Pakistani businesses.
FBR notifies categories of sales tax registered persons through SROs and general orders, giving each notified business a deadline to start issuing invoices through the Digital Invoicing system. If your business has received a digital invoicing notice, integrating with a ready platform like Digi Invoice lets you meet the deadline immediately without a software project.
Any FBR digital invoice can be verified by scanning its Version 2.0 QR code, or through FBR's Tax Asaan app, which confirms the invoice was registered with FBR. Every invoice Digi Invoice posts carries a valid FBR invoice number and QR code, so your customers and auditors can verify it instantly.
