Common FBR Digital Invoicing Errors and How to Fix Them

Most FBR invoice rejections come from a handful of recurring issues — sale-type mismatches, missing references and wrong values. Here are the common ones and how to prevent them.

Sale-type and tax-field mismatches

A large share of errors come from applying a tax to a sale type that does not allow it — for example putting extra tax on reduced-rate goods, which FBR rejects.

The fix is to make the tax fields follow the sale type, which is exactly what pre-submission validation enforces.

Missing references on notes

Debit and credit notes are rejected when the reference to the original invoice or the reason for the adjustment is missing or wrongly formatted.

Always raise a note against the specific original invoice so the reference is correct by construction.

Wrong values and identifiers

Malformed NTN/CNIC, an HS Code that does not match the required format, or sending the wrong value base (such as ignoring the retail price on 3rd Schedule goods) all cause failures.

Validating identifiers and values before posting removes most of these at source.

Prevent them before they happen

Digi Invoice validates the whole invoice — sale types, tax fields, HS Codes, identifiers and references — against FBR's rules before it is submitted.

That means issues are shown and fixed once, so the submission clears the first time.
