FBR Digital Invoicing Software Download and Login: What Is Real and What Is Not (2026)
There is no FBR digital invoicing software to download. Here is the real login, the free PRAL route, and the only official files FBR actually gives you.
What this guide tells you, in plain words
Thousands of people in Pakistan search every month for an “FBR digital invoicing software download”. There is no such file. FBR does not make a program you install on your computer.
What FBR gives you is a login and a set of rules. The login is on the IRIS portal at iris.fbr.gov.pk, the same site you use for tax returns. The rules are in two free PDFs. This guide shows you exactly where each one is, and what you still need to buy or build.
There is no FBR digital invoicing app or setup file
FBR is the tax office, not a software company. It runs the system that receives your invoices. It does not sell or give away billing software.
So if a website offers you an “FBR digital invoicing software free download” as a setup file or an APK, be careful. Nothing official is handed out that way. Giving your FBR password or your token (the long secret key that lets software send invoices in your name) to an unknown program is a serious risk.
The same is true for PRAL. PRAL is Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited, the government-owned company that runs FBR's computer systems. People search for a “PRAL digital invoicing download” too. PRAL gives you a free connection, not a program to install.
The one genuine app in this story is Tax Asaan, FBR's own mobile app. It is for checking an invoice, not for making one. You scan the QR code on a receipt and it tells you whether the invoice is really in FBR's records.
Where you actually log in
Your login is your IRIS login. Go to iris.fbr.gov.pk and sign in with the same NTN or CNIC and password you use for your sales tax return. There is no separate digital invoicing username.
Once inside, open the Digital Invoicing section. FBR then asks you to pick one of two modes.
Mode one is Manual Invoice Generation. You type each invoice into a form on IRIS itself. It costs nothing and needs no software. It works for a shop that issues a handful of invoices a day, and it becomes painful above that.
Mode two is API Integration. API means a connection that lets two software systems talk to each other. Your billing software sends each invoice straight to FBR and gets back an IRN (Invoice Reference Number — the unique number FBR gives every invoice) and a QR code. This is the mode almost every real business ends up using.
If you want the screen-by-screen version of this, read 'IRIS Digital Invoicing Portal: Login, Enrolment, Search & Cancel (2026 Walkthrough)'. For typing an invoice by hand, read 'How to Add a Sales Tax Invoice in IRIS Manually: FBR Manual Invoice Generation (2026)'.
The files FBR really does give you
FBR keeps its digital invoicing documents on one page: fbr.gov.pk/di-technical-assistance. We opened that page while writing this guide and listed what it links to.
The first file is the Technical Documentation for DI API, version 1.12. It is the rulebook your software must follow — every field name, every sale type, every error code. The direct link on 15 September 2026 was download1.fbr.gov.pk/Docs/20257301172130815TechnicalDocumentationforDIAPIV1.12.pdf.
The second file is the Digital Invoicing User Manual. The copy FBR links from that page today is version 1.5, at download1.fbr.gov.pk/Docs/20257301171649798DIUserManualV1.5.pdf. A later version 1.6, dated 16 April 2026, adds the invoice cancellation rules; if the page still shows 1.5 when you visit, check fbr.gov.pk/sros and the same Docs folder for the newer file.
The same section also holds the List of License Integrators at fbr.gov.pk/list-of-license-interprator and the Digital Invoicing Legal Provisions page at fbr.gov.pk/di-legal-provisions. Those two pages are worth more than any download: one tells you who is allowed to connect you, the other holds the notifications the rule rests on.
That is the complete set. Two PDFs and a few web pages. No installer, no licence key, no free trial.
So what do you actually need to buy?
You need something that turns your sale into the exact JSON message FBR expects, sends it, and stores what comes back. You have three honest choices.
One: use PRAL as your integrator. It is free of cost. You still need your own software, or a developer, to build against the API document. Free means no integrator fee, not no work. 'Free FBR Digital Invoicing Software: What PRAL Gives Free vs What Paid Platforms Add (2026)' compares the two sides.
Two: use a licensed integrator's ready platform. You log in through a browser, so again there is nothing to download. You pay a monthly fee and skip the development. 'FBR Digital Invoicing: Licensed Integrator vs PRAL — How to Choose (2026)' sets out when each one makes sense.
Three: type invoices into IRIS by hand and buy nothing at all. Slow, but legal and free.
Whichever route you pick, the deadline has already passed for every sales-tax-registered person. Under SRO 1852(I)/2025 of 24 September 2025 the last group had to be live by 31 December 2025, and the penalty for staying out now starts at Rs 1 million under the substituted clause (25) of section 33 of the Sales Tax Act 1990, with up to Rs 5 million more if the failure continues one month after that.
Your next three steps
Step one: log in at iris.fbr.gov.pk and open the Digital Invoicing section to see which mode your account is on. If you have never enrolled, 'How to Register for FBR Digital Invoicing (Step by Step)' walks you through it.
Step two: download the two PDFs above and hand the API one to whoever will do your integration. If you are buying a ready platform instead, you do not need to read it — they do.
Step three: test in the sandbox before you go live. Sandbox is FBR's free practice system, where test invoices do not count as real. Nobody gets every field right the first time.
Digi Invoice runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install. It posts each invoice to FBR's digital invoicing system, checks it against the DI v1.12 rules before it goes, and prints the IRN and QR code on the invoice you hand the customer.
Difficult words in this guide
IRIS — FBR's online tax portal at iris.fbr.gov.pk, where you file returns and now also enrol for digital invoicing.
API — a connection that lets two software systems talk to each other without a person typing anything.
Token — the long secret key that lets your software send invoices to FBR in your name. Treat it like a password.
Sandbox — FBR's free practice system, where test invoices do not count as real ones.
PRAL — Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited, the government-owned company that runs FBR's computer systems and offers free integration.
